Money A+E Co-founders awarded MBE for services to Disadvantaged People and Social Enterprise
Updated: May 13, 2022
We are delighted to announce that Money A+E Co-Founders Gregory Ashby and Jerry During have been awarded Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for services to Disadvantaged People and Social Enterprise!
Greg and Jerry set up Money A+E in 2011 to build the financial resilience of Diverse Ethnic Communities (DECs), disadvantaged groups and young people.
In 2021 Money A+E’s services reached 1,629 people, supporting individuals to manage £2.7million of debt. They also put £526,000 back into the pockets of those struggling financially.
Greg and Jerry were inspired by their own experiences of debt and exclusion when growing up. Both felt first-hand the stress that money issues and social barriers can place on families and individuals.
Among Money A+E's services, Money Mentors School has now upskilled thousands of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with essential money management skills. The programme also aims to connect them with employers for career mentoring.
Rt Hon Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham (Newham) and Money A+E Advisory Board member, said:
‘I am delighted that Jerry and Greg have been honoured in the New Year list. Their awards are well deserved, reflecting hard work and tireless commitment. Recognising a pressing need, they have built Money A+E from scratch into an institution benefiting our whole community. The MBEs are a feather in Newham’s cap too.’
Our warm congratulations to Greg and Jerry!
